Interesting post by Clay Shirky about the PR tactics applied by Second Life. Found through Jeff Jarvis in a post called “Virtual numbers“. Apparently they’re insinuating a high rise in users by reporting a figure called “residents”. Seen in this light it is interesting to read an article in Emerce published June 15, 2006 (Dutch only) in which Linden Lab refers to unique users. I think that marketing managers thinking about entering Second Life should be aware of this fact when making their decision.
