Streaming audio is going mainstream

CBS has bought my favorite online streaming radio service last.fm for an estimated $280m. Earlier rumours talked about Viacom snapping the company for about $480m. A little bit less but congratulations to the guys at last.fm. I think it is a very smart move from CBS. Sure, more last.fm’s will appear on the scene but one thing they cannot copy is the data of the listening habits of 15 million existing users build up over the last five years. What an asset, amazing. Do you think they can earn $20 per existing user over the coming years – which would be one way to look at  legitimizing this aqcuisition for CBS? I think this deal is a bargain. If they keep up their current work and keep rolling out new usefull services like they did until now they can make a multiple of that amount. Easily.
