Yesterday Max Roach, one of the greatest drummers of all time, passed away at the age of 83. For me, he was one of those magic musicians from the old days, and I first learned about him through my father. My father, a jazz drummer himself, always said that the one thing he admired so much about Max was the fact that he played the drums like a real musician. No flexing of muscles but always showing taste and touch.
Rest in Peace.
